So many ways to apply updates, but none of them work

$

I am using repository manager v 1.7.0.158. I am trying to find the best way to apply firmware and BIOS updates to my vmware clusters.  I have been creating custom linux bundles and exporting them to a iso to boot from, then it will apply the updates. However  If there are iDRAC or Lifecycle Controller updates it breaks the virtual media connection and doesn't find the remaining files. i sometimes have to run the boot process three times to get all of the updates applied.

So i though maybe i could export to a ISO and run all the updates from the USC  (v1.5.1.57) and see if that would work better. No matter what i enter in to the options i could not the platform update to work from the ISO. OK, let's try Network share. Nope, it keeps saying it cannot find the catalog no matter what path i try to specify to it. OK, lets try FTP, even though i'd rather not download everything 12 times. No that doesn't work either as it says the updates i am trying to install are not Dell Authorized Updates.

I also have some M610 blades that i tried doing through the chassis management controller and an idrac update failed because said it wasn't the right kind of SUU for the system.

With all of the ways to potentially apply updates to a server, why do none of these work?

Dell DUP Packages v492

I have noticed there has been an update for the packages i believe this is v492 according to the repository manager, it seems this has broken the Dell Linux ISO Bootable this cannot find any file or directory and the old ISO was 7.8GB big and now its 500MB.

Repository Manager Downloads all failing

Hi,

Since updating to the latest Repository Manager, I cannot get a single SUU download to complete successfully. (Bundle/Export as SUU to Directory)

The jobs fail at different percentages like 50 or 72 or 84 etc etc. i.e. randomly.

This used to work fine.

Could this be version related or is there another issue I need to look at?

(BTW, I can get downloads etc from say Microsoft at >2MB/s but Dell is painfully slow. Always has been in my experience over the last 6 years, compared to other sites. I am just wondering if the slowness of the site is contributing to more failures of downloads.)

Sorry to whinge, but this is a real problem that is now causing headaches.

Also, individual files can be downloaded from Dell no problems (although slow). e.g. the 7.7GB SUU file comes down fine as a Windows download. Individual DRAC f/ware or Bios etc, no problems.

Just a Repository Manager issue it seems. And it is any of the various SUU downloads I have tried over the last month or two.

Thx,

John Bradshaw

Dell Repository Manager

I am new to Dell Repository manager.

I have set up a number of Repositories under my repositories. I work in a team of 10. Do we all have to set up separate repositories or can we share a common set of them? If so how?

Repositories specific to user logged in?

We have DRM installed on a server. If I RDP into the server and launch RM Data Canter, I see my repository.

Someone else had done the same, launched the utility and no repository seen.

Is this normal behavior? Why have more repositories than needed taking up real estate?

Thanks.

Repo manager - Any way to create bootable ISO's in batch or from command line?

$

Hello all,

I create ISO images everyday for individual servers and would like to be able to create multiple ISO images instead of just one at a time for each model server I'm working with.

Is there any way to do this or will it be in a future release?  Or is there an alternative way to create Linux Bootable ISO's in this manner?

Thanks,

Robert.

DRM SUU repository failure with SBUU

Hi,

I am trying to update the firmware on a server. I am using v 2.4.866 of the SBUU boot media, and I am using v 1.9 and now 1.8 of DRM. I am trying to create a DVD or USB flash that I can use with the SBUU to update the firmware. I created a my repos for the R510 bundles, and exported them to SUU directory, and also iso. and everytime that i do this, the SBUU fails when i try to get it to read the media. there is something wrong with the /repository/catalog.xml file. I have an older v474 R510 DVD and that repos works fine. the creation of the SBUU folder is correct....i have traced the issue down to the catalog.xml file that is created during the export.

Am I doing something wrong? Any help appreciated, this is driving me crazy.

Linux ISO Boot!

Specifications:

Dell Repository Manager 1.9.0

DTK Plugin 740

V501 DUP's

Hi,

I have just noticed that dell has done some updated regarding the Linux Iso Boots I just wanted to drop some feedback

V501 DUP's - Does not work gives the following errors: No file or directory found, unable to run inventory scan.

Dell DTK 740: unable to run inventory scan. failed to load image, UDEV start up errors. had to revert back to 720 DTK.

As we do our updates quite regularly this is a great way to update unfortunately all the latest has still been broken we are still on v492 DUP's.

Repository Manager 1.9.0: No Problems so far.

These were for the following server:

R210

R210II

R310

R320

R410

R420

R510

R620

R720xd

R820

Have been tested on all.

Kind Regards.

Change between DTK_651.cab and DTK_730.cab causes USB boot to fail with error "apply_bundles.sh is invalid"

Hi there,

I'm having issues creating a USB-bootable Dell Repository Manager firmware updater, based on the Linux Bootable ISO that's created by DRM 1.7.

The conversion from ISO to USB boot works fine when the DTK_651.cab plugin is used from C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\RepositoryManager\Payloads\. However, since DTK_730.cab was downloaded, myself and some others on the internet are having issues when booting from USB. Basically it fails with the error "apply_bundles.sh is invalid". When booting from DVD, everything works fine.

I'm convinced DTK_720.cab used to work too, but oddly I can't find it in http://ftp.us.dell.com/sysman/ so I've no idea where to obtain it (and a google search for DTK_730.cab turns up nothing).

More background information is available in the comments here: http://www.twistedethics.com/2013/04/19/making-the-dell-deployment-media-linux-iso-usb-bootable/#comments

Is anyone at Dell able to help me out with this issue? I've tried both Unetbootin and Rufus and neither work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers,

Phil

Missing plug-in exporting as SUU

We were attempting to do scheduled maintenance on our servers with one of the Dell techs but were unable to proceed.

Once past all the versioning and .NET issues I am currently attempting to export the Windows x64 system bundle (v501)  for an R720. Current version of DRM is 1.9. Package is failing to export to directory.

Summary: Failed exporting to SUU format.

Error: Failed downloading plug-in file:

I've also tried using the plug-in update. but it only identifies 32bit plugins as available for download.

Latest Repository Mgr skips files???

Hi,

In looking at the logs for an suu download it seems that Rep Mgr is skipping files. Is that what should be happening??

e.g. Below you can see that it goes from file 24/144 to 26/144, or at the end you will see it goes from 53/144 to 56/144

Seems strange .......

Thx,

John Bradshaw

Is there some sort of trick to getting Repository manager to upgrade from 1.8.0 to 1.9.0 on a Win2008R2 server that has .Net 4.5.2 installed?

It keeps coming up with the error ".Net Framework 4.5.1 not detected."  4.5.2 is an in-place replacement for 4.5.1 and 4.5 ...

Hi,

I'm testing the Schedule Automatic Search from the My Repositories view in order to automatically update my local repository.
Under the Actions tab I selected Import updates to an existing repository and specified my repository, but this creates a new repository named Found-New-Updates-Repository-YYYY-MM-DD-nnnnn instead of updating my existing repository.

This is happening on two separate installations of Repository Manager v. 1.9.0.151

What can I be wrong?

DELL OME and DRM integration issues

$

Hello

Every time i attempt to create a new repository with DRM i get an error.

DRM is able to connect the to OME server, i can see all the machines, then when atempting to create the bundles, it keeps saying "error retrieving inventory from DELL OME"

OME  is version 1.3

DRM is version 1.9

OME does indeed do the inventory no problem, and i can see updates that are available.

Whats the difference of applying updates with OME directly, versus using DRM?

DRM does connect to the OME server(on same machine) and then displays the computers, but when it attempts to proccess updates to create the bundle, i get a error retrieving inventory from dell open manage essentials.

This was all working before i update the OME and DRM versions.

Thanks for the help

Dell Repository Manager failes download

Hi,

running Dell Repository Manager to get an Bundled ISO file to upgrade R210 and R810.

get this error (see attached picture). Same way for R610 and R620 works fine 2 weeks ago, but not now...

I use Dell Repository v1.8.0.89

create new Repository Dell online Catalog Deselect all, only leave RACK windows 32bit select only R210 (or R810) only most recent

select the bundle and click "export" export as SUU to ISO Generate 32-Bit SUU jobs failed

tried also Dell Online Repository, get also error.

I don´t have any network problem on my server

How do you use the DRM?

I've configure a repository for my R610 and R620's I run the UEFI, how do I point to it to use it? The manuals don't indicate how to use it at all and there is no PDF manual for 1.9. I'm new to the DRM and obviously missing something.

OME and Repository Manager missing drivers

$

OME and Repository Manager (RM) don't appear to inventory/include all system drivers.  On a freshly built M620 (Windows Server 2012 R2), Device Manager shows 20 unidentified devices because the server doesn't have the recommended Intel Chipset Driver installed, Intel_C600_X79_Series_Chipset_G00_ZPE.exe.  OME doesn't list this as a missing package though and searching the Dell Online repository in RM for "intel chipset" doesn't return anything.  Shouldn't OME and RM be aware of this driver?

Thanks,

Seth
